The client’s rear garden contained a dense and mature stand of invasive bamboo planted over 12 years ago, close to the house and boundary wall.

New bamboo shoots had started emerging through a slabbed patio and along the property’s foundations, raising concerns about structural damage.

The homeowner required a fast and permanent bamboo removal solution to prevent underground rhizomes from spreading into the neighbour’s property, which could lead to a legal dispute.

A full invasive species survey was carried out by our CSJK-accredited surveyor, clearly identifying the bamboo’s spread and noting rhizome intrusion into the adjoining property.
We developed a tailored bamboo excavation strategy with safety measures in place for working close to the building and garden structures.
The affected soil and rhizomes were mechanically excavated and disposed of at a licensed waste facility in accordance with environmental regulations.
An aftercare and monitoring program was implemented, with site inspections scheduled over 12 months to check for any regrowth and apply herbicidal treatment if required.

Site Challenges and Solutions Delivered

Heavy rainfall on the excavation day required careful planning to maintain safe operation of plant equipment on the waterlogged site.
The excavation was particularly challenging due to the close proximity of the root system to the house wall and boundary structure.
Bamboo rhizomes had spread up to 3 metres from the main clump, and all contaminated soil had to be precisely traced and removed to ensure no regrowth.
Following completion, Japanese Knotweed was identified in the neighbour’s garden. Our team swiftly returned to eradicate the Japanese Knotweed, preventing reinfestation on the client’s side.
